BREAKING: McCain picks Gay-friendly Alaska Governor Palin for VP slot

John McCain picked Republican Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin today to be his vice presidential running mate.

Some quick reference points about Palin.

  • Palin is noted for her independence from big oil companies and willingness to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions within Alaska.
  • She proposed to eliminate the gas tax for her state in the wake of high oil prices.
  • She used her veto power to prevent the state legislature from blocking health benefits to same-sex partners of public employees in Alaska.
  • Palin is strongly pro-life and belongs to Feminists for Life.
  • She opposes same-sex marriage, but is open to gay lifestyle and culture.
  • She created the largest operating budget in Alaska's history but paid for it by cutting costs in the construction budget.
  • In 1984, Palin placed second in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant. Don't be too impressed, the entire state population is about the size of Little Rock, Arkansas.
  • Palin holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Idaho.
  • Her husband is an Eskimo that works for BP. Her son is in the Army.

The title of this article is inaccurate. Palin is not gay-friendly. Consider her responses to a 2006 gubernatorial questionnaire, found here: http://eagleforumalaska.blogspot.com/2006/07/2006-gubernatorial-candidate.html 10. Do you support the Alaska Supreme Court’s ruling that spousal benefits for state employees should be given to same-sex couples? Why or why not? SP: No, I believe spousal benefits are reserved for married citizens as defined in our constitution. 12. In relationship to families, what are your top three priorities if elected governor? SP: 1. Creating an atmosphere where parents feel welcome to choose the venues of education for their children. 2. Preserving the definition of “marriage” as defined in our constitution. 3. Cracking down on the things that harm family life: gangs, drug use, and infringement of our liberties including attacks on our 2nd Amendment rights. One of her priorities as governor would have been to prevent same-sex couples from having access to the benefits of marriage. Let's think this through, folks.
